What tile is best for a walk in shower?

Ceramic tiles are NOT recommended for a wet room floor, but they are perfect for the walls in both kitchens and bathrooms. When it comes to wet room flooring the best choice is Mosaic Tiles, Natural Stone, or Porcelain.

Tiles suitable for wet rooms are usually impervious to water. Wet room flooring must be non-absorbent, having a water resistant glaze and be strong enough to resist rigorous cleaning. Tiles should also have slip resistance.

Do you tile the walls or the floors first in a walk in shower?

It is good practice to tile the walls first and then the floor last to avoid any potential damage to the floor tiles. However; this is not always practical. If the floor has to be done first, maybe due to bathroom units or sanitary ware needing to be fitted, then it is best practice to make sure the floor has been left to dry for 24 to 48 hours before walking on it, and then making sure it is fully covered so as to minimise the potential for the tiles and grout to become damaged.

If you have any concerns, at Preston Tiling Solutions we are always happy to discuss the best options with you to make your tiling project run as smoothly as possible.

Do you fit a bathroom before tiling?

To ultimately achieve the best job, it is always best to make sure that your bathroom floor tiling is installed before any sanitary ware is fitted. Doing this will give a much more professional looking job, and also it means the floor will be sealed a lot better, reducing the risk of leaks.

Cutting tiles around a toilet or pedestal is really not an ideal situation if you are installing a new bathroom, and we will always aim to installed your tiled bathroom floor before any sanitary ware is fitted.
